Psummer Psalms

Psummer Psalms 2024

Well, the Psummer Psalms show is here again! The Chapel Creatives are delighted to bring worship focus to “imprecatory Psalms”. By definition, these songs bring out the lament of Jehovah’s followers as they are involved I the spiritual battle and struggles. The visuals in these verses are stirring and emotional. They often are calls to God for help and deliverance and justice. Unsurprisingly, battle armor and weaponry imagery come to the fore—swords, spears, bucklers. But in addition, we find echoes of the Gospel’s message of doing battle through love acts and through the life-giving grace of Jesus. Fountains of water suggest that all sufficient grace is available to us. Banquets reflect our hope of final victory and peace.

The Psalm 34 phrase, “Young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing,” suggests that these powerful beasts even at their strongest are never strong enough. So it is with men; we are not strong enough to ear favor with God and find the satisfaction in Him that our souls crave. He does this for us through faith in Christ.

"A Poem Based on Psalm 34”

By Dennis Borgerding

My enemies gather around me

I am surrounded by those who wish my destruction.

In a mighty struggle, I try to defend against their attacks.

Yet I fall back in anguish and into possible ruin.

I fall into the snare they set for me, the pit of despair.

Yet I do not despair, I cry out to the Lord, my hope and salvation.

The angel of the Lord gather around me

Fighting against those who wish my destruction.

With his buckler he wards off the attacks

With his sword he drives back the enemy

He frees me from the snare, lifting me out of the pit.

My soul rejoices, I sing praise to the Lord, my hope and salvation

"Psalm 42:1 | Psalm 34:8”

Lupe Santoyo

As the deer pants for water our souls pant for God, the living God. When can we go and meet with him?

Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him.

"Psalm 34:7, 10”

The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them…The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing”

"Psalm 36:5”

By Lupe Santoyo

Your love O Lord reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the sky. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the great deep. O Lord, you preserve both man and beast.

"Psalm 36:9”

For with you is a fountain of life; in your light we do see light

"Psalm 34:8”

By Mary Gregory

Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.

Psalm 36:7-8

How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings. They feast on the abundance of your house and you give them rink from the river of your delights

Psalm 35:1-2

“Contend, O Lord, with hose who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me! Take hold of shield and buckler and rise for my help”

"Psalm 35:3"

Draw the spear and javelin against my pursuers! Say to my soul, “I am your salvation”
