THE WORD OF GOD

In this show, the Chapel Creatives is excited to bring a meditative focus on the Word of God, the Bible. one subtitle for this show is “What the Bible says about itself.” Quite amazingly, the Bible often appeals (in a “breaking the 4th wall” sort of way) to us, the readers & listeners. In a dramatic way, it brings us to new levels of awareness as to its nature, efficacy, and purpose in the redemptive plan of God. It likens itself to an illuminating light, to a protective sword, to nutritious food, to life-giving rain, etc. while simultaneously insisting that it is not dry communication but rather “alive and active” and under the direction of the Holy Spirit in our lives today.

Much of this attention it brings to itself might be attributed to the fact that God’s word is generative. It created the world (see Genesis 1) and continues to transform and renew the minds of His children as they walk by faith. As we appropriate and put our trust in what God says, we learn more and more about his faithfulness and gentle care for us. Jesus leaves no doubt about his opinion of the Father’s word as he prayed for His disciples—”Sanctify them in the truth, your word is truth.”

Thank you for giving your time and attention to this exhibit and more importantly our prayer is that the Word of God will more and more become a daily joy to you. Jeremiah 15:16— “Your words were found, and I ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart…”

"Self Portrait”

By Claudia Finn

In this painting, I wanted to show some stages of the Holy Spirit working in my life. Sin weighed me down heavily in a long season of my life, but then the Holy Spirit guided me to pray. The Lord cleansed me as I confessed my sin. Now I’m thankful and full of joy and gratitude, but I did not see a change in some areas until God showed me that I needed to trust his Word. I needed to believe that the Bible is true.

When I believed, that’s when I was set free.

I trust that the Word is true.

Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than a two edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirits, of joins and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

John 8:34-36

Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

1 John 1:9

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

"The Word”

By Dennis J. Borgerding

The Word spoke and there was light
The light gave life to everything
No more did dark reign but light shone forth
The Word spoke and there was light

The Word became flesh and lived with us
The Word gave life to the dead
He healed the lame and made the blind to see
The Word became flesh and lived with us

The Word is a sword judging the heart
The Word is living, active and all seeing
Divides soul and spirit, thoughts and attitudes
The Word is a sword judging the heart

The Word is buried in my heart bringing me light
The Word gives light when I am in darkness
The Word heals my soul, adjust my thoughts
The Word is buried in my heart bringing me light

Sand Sand Sand Sand

Everyone who hears these words
Everyone who hears these words of mine
Everyone who hears these words
And does them will be like a man who builds

And it stand stand stands stands
The rains fell, the floods came
The winds blew on the house
The rain falls, the floods come
The winds blow on the house

The rain fell, the floods came
The winds blew on the house
The rain falls, the floods come
The winds blow on the house

And it stand stands stands
The rains fell, the floods came
The winds blew on the house
The rain falls, the floods come
The winds blow on the house

The rains fell, the floods came
The winds blew on the house
The rain falls, the floods come
The winds blow on the house

And it stands for it stands on the rock

And it stands for it stands on the rock
Story behind the song

The song, sand, is based on Matthew 7:24-27

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like
a wise man who built his house on the rocks. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it has been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it”

In this passage, Jesus, the Word made flesh speaks about the promised result of what it is do or not do what he says. Notice in the verses that both groups Jesus speaks of have similarities. They both hear the words of Christ. They both experience the same ‘sufferings/trials’ in life. They both build on SOMETHING! The difference between the two? The difference is what they do in response to Jesus’ words. Will they follow them or will they not? Will they be convinced that Jesus’ words are best or will they trust in themselves? Such is the choice of the walk of faith. In each and every circumstance of our lives we must ask ‘Will I trust God and his Words above my own?’

Musically, this song is TOTALLY different from anything I’ve ever created. I tried to speak more with the musical arrangement, the sparseness of the instrumentals, and directness of the words than I did in any robust lyrical work. The first half is supposed to feel sparse. It’s supposed to feel empty. it’s supposed to be borderline unpleasant. it’s supposed to help us experience the sparsenesss and emptiness of what it is to live according to our own way. The second half , with more dynamics added, is supposed to communicate the fuller and more joyful life with Christ that has a rock solid foundation (of Christ Himself) that can weather the trials of our lives on earth.

"God’s Covenant”

By Lupe Santoyo

God’s love is so GREAT that even though He is Holy & Righteous, still He holds his own self accountable to His word for all his creation. he has even given us the most beautiful, spectacular signs, rainbows, stars, Mt. Sinai etc; to constantly remind us of his promises!

Genesis 9:11, “I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of a flood and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.”

"Leaf Peeping."

By Penny Pickel

“My husband and I love "‘leaf peeping’ in the fall. We don’t make a big plan to visit Vermont or Maine or even the Shenandoah. We just hop int he car and go for a drive, traveling on 3 digit highways, to Williamsburg, Smithfield or other parts west of here. In the piece I wanted to capture the colors of fall. I mixed various watercolors on a piece of plexiglass. I laid the paper on the plexiglass to see what would result. After it was dry, I saw this forest of fall colors. I added black ink for trunks and branches. I used Dragon Cloud paper, which has become a rice paper favorite of mine. you an see the water resistance in places where the color was not absorbed, and you can also see the flecks of fiber in the rice paper.”

"Pumpkin Patch"

By Penny Pickle

“I love the fall season. It always brings with it a welcome change from dog days of summer. It also brings my wedding anniversary, annual birthday celebration of my twins, and my own birthday; all of them - joyful days for me. Pumpkins have been a part of my fall celebration for many years. This year, the pumpkin brings to me memories of visiting pumpkin patches with my twins when they were 1, 2, 3, and older, until they were too big to let me take them. Since I began to paint in 2020, I have painted a pumpkin every year to celebrate this time of year.”
